PNU showed the city and guests of Frankivsk the best scientific picnic!

On May 10, 2024, lecturers and students from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Physics and Technology at the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University actively participated in the 5th Science Picnic, organized as part of the City’s Day celebrations.

The event, supported by the Department of Youth Policy and Sports of the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council, aimed at disseminating scientific knowledge and promoting scientific research among the youth and residents of the city, preserving the spirit of curiosity and openness.

University representatives captivated the event participants with exciting experiments and demonstrations, revealing the unique world of science.

Maria Skladanyuk, a leading engineer of the Chemistry Department’s educational laboratories, along with postgraduate students Nazar Danylyuk, Ivanna Lapchuk, and students Yevhenii Androshchuk, Liuba Hutsul, Khrystyna Kushmeliuk, and Valeriia Shulha delighted children, high school students, students from various specialties, science enthusiasts, and all attendees with spectacular experiments. Participants had the opportunity to follow reactions in real-time and observe chemical experiments. For instance, the “smoke without fire” experiment amazed participants with its blue and yellow colors. Additionally, patriotic symbolism was demonstrated through the pH indicator reaction with bromothymol blue.

For younger guests, colorful experiments were organized, including making the popular “slime” and the “Chameleon” reaction. The fire spark on the hand, as always, captured a large audience’s attention.

Associate Professor of the Department of Biology and Ecology Nelya Dolynko and Senior Lecturer Halyna Melnychenko unveiled the amazing world of the tiniest organisms and structures that surround us. Both children and adults had the opportunity to independently examine various microorganisms and cellular structures under the microscope.

Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Oleksandra Abrat, together with master’s students Sviatoslav Kharuk and Andrii Shturmak, offered free measurements of vital indicators such as blood pressure, pulse, oxygen levels, height, weight, body fat percentage, muscle mass, and blood glucose levels.

Head of the Department of Materials Science and Advanced Technologies Volodymyr Kotsiubynskyi, Professor Volodymyr Boichuk, along with students Liubov Babinchuk and Bohdan Romaniv, presented the effects of low temperatures (-196 degrees Celsius) on various objects. Professor Ivan Yaremyi of the same department, along with students Vladyslav Liubevych and Valentyn Bardzii, demonstrated the possibilities of the electromagnetic field created by a Tesla coil.

The science picnic concluded with a vote, during which the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University won first place in the nomination “Best Location of the 5th Science Picnic in Ivano-Frankivsk”.
